Point Cook Dog Training & Day Care offers Nose Work® workshops that embrace the sniffing ability of your dog, run over three weeks allowing you time to learn in classes and practise at home.
We run both Introduction to K9 Nose Work® and Introduction to K9 Odour.
Have you ever noticed just how amazing your dog is regarding the moist button on the end of its snout? Yep we are talking about their noses!
Humans just do not have the ability or even volume of sensors that dogs have as we rely more on our eyes when we investigate our world. Dogs on the other hand sniff first and look and listen after.
We have the privilege of having Angela Hervey Tennyson, a certified K9 Nose Work® Instructor, take these classes and share her wealth of knowledge on our dog’s sense of smell.
These courses run over three weeks on Saturday allowing you to have time to learn in classes as well as go home and practice the skills. Each session runs for 3 hours and each dog will have plenty of opportunity to work the floor multiple times.
All dogs work as individuals with their handler so this is an ideal course for dogs that are not great around other dogs, anxious dogs and even for owners who are not comfortable being around other dogs.
Despite being a rather passive exercise, involving only slow walking and sniffing, the concentration alone is very exhausting and owners often comment that their dogs go straight to sleep as soon as they get in the car. Sniffing requires a lot of focus and energy therefore the dogs go home feeling very tired and very satisfied!
