Day Care for Dogs

We are open Wednesday and Thursday from 7am-6pm.

Point Cook Dog Training & Day Care offers dog day care as part of our services during weekdays.

If your dog is bored at home, desperate to hang out with some buddies, hanging out to just run around and play all day and have a secure environment to socialise in, then this is your place!

Social interaction is very important for dogs, especially those that are young and learning to find their feet while building their confidence. Whilst puppy classes are a great opportunity to play with other pups, it just isn’t long enough and sometimes pups need at least half an hour to warm up! If you do have a shy pup who needs more time, then dog day care could help enormously.

Teenage dogs and young adults often have a yearning to play but for so many owners it can get difficult finding other nice dogs out there to play with, the dog park can be a little overwhelming for some and sometimes time just gets the better of us.

Our venue offers a safe space for puppies, active teens and adults, adopted dogs, shy dogs, those learning to build their confidence, those looking for some company and those that just don’t get a chance to see or do much during the week.

Either way, we have our indoor venue to cater for them all.

For day care, all dogs must be fully vaccinated as per our Terms and Conditions and as stated in the Code of Practice.

Day Care Fees

Puppy Playgroup (30 minutes maximum for pups only) $15

Short Stay (up to 2 hours maximum) $30

Half Day (up to 5 hours maximum) $45

Full Day (up to 11 hours maximum) $52

Note: All dogs must pass an assessment with the staff of Point Cook Dog Training and Day Care before booking in for their first session. If you are a new day care client please call the centre and speak to staff to organise this. Our centre number is 8360 7112. If your dog has not been back into our day care facility for a number of months, a reassessment will be necessary.

Note: We will not accept dogs that go to different day care centres in the same period i.e. they go to another day care centre on one day and come to us on another.

We are also NOT a boarding facility so we do not take dogs in overnight. This is strictly a day care facility.

We also do not take dogs in for day stays randomly as we transition all dogs into our facility over a month or two. We prefer that our clients are regular and are familiar with the venue and their buddies.

We will not accept dogs of mature age (4 years of age and onwards) that have never been to a dog day care centre before.

If you do have a mature dog that has been to a dog day care centre before, we may offer you an assessment depending on the discussion of your dog.

We will not accept aged dogs (7 years of age onwards) in our facility.

Booking Information

Dogs are carefully screened and assessed before entry so that we know they will all get on just fine as safety is very important to us. We also need to ensure the staff can handle the dogs so dogs are assessed regarding how they cope with human interaction.

We will not accept dogs that bite dogs or people or display aggression with intention to cause harm. Dogs cannot be booked in without approval first.

Dogs need to pass their assessment before they can be accepted into our day care group. Bookings can only be made by calling the centre to check availability and to see if suitable buddies are around.

We offer a range of sessions from a short stay (2 hours), half day stay (2-6 hours) to a full day (6-9 hours) and packages can also be purchased.

All dogs are transitioned into day care over a month or two and they must all start with a short stay initially. Once we feel the dog is ready to stay longer, we will let you know but ultimately, it is the dog that decides if it wants to be with us for a full day or not and for some dogs, a short stay is plenty!

Bookings are essential as we will only take up to 15 dogs per day. We strongly believe that if the venue is overcrowded then your dog’s stress levels will climb and our aim is to reduce this. Numbers will be carefully managed to ensure dogs have plenty of space to move around and away from each other. As stated in the Code of Practice, with our given space we can take in as many as 50 dogs on the same day. This will NOT occur in our venue, ever.

When the dogs check in during the morning, we say bye to the folks and then take them into the main venue. We place them into smaller groups so that they match up in their personalities and style of play and we try to pair them up with their friends as much as possible.

While some dogs love to run and chase all day there are others that just like to snuggle up to a friend so we cater for this by having quiet spaces, room dividers and even crates for them to go and have a snooze.

For the active ones, we will be engaging in play and training during their stay and toys will also be provided for extra enrichment.

Taxi Service Available

If you are after a pick up and delivery service to our day care facility, Anthony Kent from K9 Castle Pet Minding is available to collect your dog(s) from your home and deliver them to day care as well as return them home for you. He is offering one-way trips for either pickup or delivery or return trips.

About Our Venue

Our venue is brightly lit with lots of natural light coming in and there is ample space to play in. Room dividers are mobile so we can make their pens as big or small as we like and if the dogs all happen to get on famously on certain days, we will open the entire venue up to them!

Fresh water is available at all times and we will provide them with food and snacks over the day as running around burns a lot of calories.

Dog Day Care FAQs

Can any dog start day care?

All dog must be assessed before they can start day care because we need to ensure they are friendly towards both other dogs and people. We do not accept dogs that display aggressive behaviour with intention to cause harm.

What information do you need before we can start day care?

Before your dog can attend, a comprehensive profile form needs to be completed so we have a good idea about your dog and its habits. This form will also ask you for your emergency contacts and have waivers to sign.

How many dogs will you take in one day?

We have the space to take up to 50 dogs however we feel this is too many and dogs will not have enough space to run around so we will only be taking up to 20 per day.

Will all the dogs be mixed in together?

We will divide dogs into 3 smaller groups as our pens are divided into 3 large runs. We will match dogs up with others who play in a similar way and have similar personalities. We will not put nervous dogs or young pups in with dogs that love to hoon around. Big dogs and small dogs may be together if they match in play styles.

Do we need to bring anything to day care when we drop the dog off?

We provide toys, beds, food and water all day. All you need to do is ensure your dog is wearing a collar and comes in on a leash. If your dog needs special food, please let us know so we can feed it separately.

Do dogs gets walked during their day care stay?

At this stage we do not have enough floor staff on board to take dogs out and supervise play at the same time, however during some of our private lessons, the trainers may take your dog out for an hour to serve as a distraction! We will ask for your permission before this happens.

What is the minimum age before the dog can start?

We will accept dogs are young as 3 months of age.

Does it need to be fully vaccinated?

Adult dogs need to be fully vaccinated or have a current positive titre test to prove there is substantial immunity against the diseases.

We do accept pups after they have had their second vaccination.

We require at least a C3 however a C5 is preferable.

Does my dog have to be desexed?

The Code of Practise states that both female and male dogs must be desexed by 7 months of age to attend a day care facility however there is Veterinary evidence now to support that it is far more beneficial to allow your dog to fully mature before desexing is considered. Most Veterinary practices are now recommending between 15-24 months of age is the appropriate time to desex your dog.

We will suggest desexing for intact males when we see they spend more time marking the fences then playing, more time humping than playing or when their behaviour starts to change towards other male dogs.

With female dogs, if you choose to wait until your female dog is between 1-2 years of age, you will need to keep her home for 3 weeks when she is in season and wait for it to be over before she can return.

What happens if I am running late and cannot pick my dog up on time?

If you are running late, please let us know as soon as possible. We cannot keep dogs overnight so if you cannot get to the day care centre by 7pm we will need to call your emergency contact to collect your dog. A late fee may be incurred.

Can my dog be left there overnight?

Dogs cannot be kept at the venue overnight as we do not have the required permits to do so. We are not a boarding facility. If you are after boarding, please speak to the staff as we are offering pet sitting.

What happens if my dog gets sick while it is at day care?

If we feel your dog is unwell or in pain during its stay at day care, we will contact you to come and collect it and if necessary, take it to your vet clinic. If we cannot reach you, we may decide to take it to our nominated vet clinic and any fees incurred will be billed to you.

What happens if there is an incident at day care?

Whilst we do our best to ensure the dogs play happily over the day, we cannot prevent every single incident and it might be as simple as a torn claw getting tangled in a long coat, a baby tooth falling out, a nick on an ear from some eager chasing or a sprain from too much running around. We do our best to prevent this but dogs are dogs.

If we feel the injury requires veterinary attention we will contact you first and if we cannot reach you, we will take it to our nominated vet clinic. All fees incurred will be billed to you.

How do I book my dog into day care?

Bookings can only be made calling up the centre but only once it has passed its initial assessment and you have completed your profile form.

Can my dog come to day care every day?

We do not allow dogs to come to day every day as we strongly believe they should have breaks to rest and spend time at home. Dogs may be allowed to come twice a week providing they have a full day at home in between to rest and that the days they attend have suitable buddies.
